Applied Statistics Minor program
I am Supervisor of Studies for the Statistics Applied Minor program. FAQ. This program is intended for students in some Major or Specialist other than Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science (examples: Psychology, Health Studies), and provides a conceptual and computational overview of some intermediate and advanced statistical methods. The program is intended to be combined with a Major or Specialist program in some other field with a quantitative component, for which an applied knowledge of statistical methods will be an advantage.
This is a limited program. To be considered for admission, you need to have completed one of STAB22, STAB23, PSYA06, PSYB07, MGEB11, STA220 and one of STAB27, PSYB06, PSYC08, MGEB12, STA221.
You will be admitted if you have an average of at least 2.7 grade points in these two courses, and also a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50. See the FAQ, item 4.6, for why we have these requirements.
2026-05-05 17:00: The April application process is complete, and I have made my decisions. If you were not admitted to the program, it was for one of these reasons:
- You have not completed the two required courses by the end of the Winter semester 2026. (There is no way you are being admitted to the program without these courses, so don’t waste your time and mine by applying.)
- You are registered for your course from the second list above in the summer semester. In that case, apply in August, not now.
- You were registered in a course from the second list in the Winter semester, but deferred your final exam. (Even if you write your deferred exam and pass the course, the result will not be known until after I have to convey my decision. In that case, if your grades are good enough, you are invited to apply again in August.)
- You completed your courses from the lists above, but your grade points from the two courses average less than 2.7. You may be able to use a Second Attempt at Credit to improve your grade enough to try again later.
- Your grades in the two courses were good enough, but your overall GPA was less than 2.5 (I don’t think this applied to anyone this time.)
